Blue Shield of California restructured its senior leadership as part of an effort to manage the company’s rapid growth and pursue new strategic initiatives.
Paul Markovich, previously senior vice president of the company’s Large Group Business Unit (LGBU), has been promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer. He will oversee a new organizational structure which includes Health Care services, network management and two new business units that offer medical and specialty benefits coverage to large and midsize groups.
David Joyner, previously senior vice president for network management, will be given profit and loss (P&L) responsibility as senior vice president for a newly structured Mid/Large and Specialty Benefits Business Unit, reporting to Markovich.
Juan Davila, previously vice president, network management, will become senior vice president for network management, also reporting to Markovich.
Janet Widmann, previously vice president, labor, public and strategic accounts, will now oversee the CalPERS business unit, as well. She will continue to report to Markovich. Markovich previous experience includes work for Definity Health, MyWayHealth and Booz-Allen & Hamilton.
Joyner joined Blue Shield in 1998 as VP of strategy and corporate development, and has led network management since 2002. Before joining Blue Shield, he served in varying senior leadership roles with Vivra specialty partners. Davila came to Blue Shield from Health Net of California, where he served as vice president of network management.-PR Newswire
