Barclays Capital Appoints Jeff Walker

Barclays Capital announced the appointments of Jeff Walker as managing director, head of insurance, financial institutions group, Asia Pacific.

Based in Hong Kong, Walker will be responsible for leading the origination of strategic, financing and risk management transactions for Barclays Capital’s insurance clients in Asia Pacific.

Walker joins Barclays Capital from Daiwa Capital Markets Hong Kong where he was managing director and head of insurance, Asia Pacific. Previously, he was the CEO of Prudential Assurance in Hong Kong. Prior to joining Prudential Assurance, he spent most of his career at New York Life, most recently as president and CEO of New York Life Hong Kong.

Barclays Capital Announces Executive Changes

Barclays Capital, the investment banking unit of Barclays Bank, has announced the appointments of Mr. Bhuvnesh Singh as head of equity research, India, and Mr. Neel Shahani as head of equity sales trading, India.

Mr. Singh will be in-charge of establishing and developing Barclays Capital’s Indian equity research business. He will be based in Mumbai and reports to Mr. Stephen O’Sullivan, head of Asia Ex-Japan equity research. Mr. Singh has joined Barclays Capital from Credit Suisse, where he spent over 12 years.

Mr. Shahani will be responsible for establishing and managing the Barclays Capital’s execution and sales traders’ team in India as well as growing the business’s market presence. He joins Barclays Capital from IIFL where he headed a team of sales traders covering global markets. Barclays Capital Appoints Huang Yiping

Barclays Capital announced that the company appointed Huang Yiping as managing director and chief economist for merging Asia.

Huang Yiping will take charge of research on China’s macro economy and the political relations for both sides of the Taiwan straits. He will report the result to Piero Ghezzi, supervisor for emerging market and foreign exchange research, and Jonathan Scoffin, supervisor for Asian research.

Previously, Huang was professor of economics in the China Center for Economic Research, Peking University. He also held the Rio Tinto post in the Chinese economy, Crawford School of Economics and Government at the Australian National University. Barclays Capital announced the appointment of Rafael Carrillo as managing director and head of financial institutions group, South East Asia. He will be based in Singapore.

Carrillo will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with the firm’s client base across South East Asia, in co-ordination with country coverage bankers, product colleagues and global sector partners.

Barclays Capital a subsidiary of Barclays Group, announced the appointment of Kenichi Onuma as head of equity capital markets, Japan. He is based in Tokyo.

Onuma joins Barclays Capital from JP Morgan Securities Japan, where he was an executive director in that firm’s equity capital markets business. During his investment banking career he has been involved in a number of landmark deals. He joined JP Morgan in 2002 after spending two years in equity capital markets at Goldman Sachs in Japan. Barclays Capital division of Barclays Bank announced that Akihiko Asami has joined the firm as managing director and head of corporate finance, investment banking Japan.

Asami will lead the firm’s industry client coverage in Japan as well as develop and manage relationships with key clients.

Asami joins from Deutsche Securities in Japan, where he was a managing director and head of the technology, media and telecom group as well as head of the healthcare group within the global banking division since 2009. Luca Ricci and Troy Davig Join Barclays Capital

Barclays Capital announced two senior appointments in its research franchise.

Luca Ricci joins the company as a managing director and head of international economic research, based in New York.

Ricci will be responsible for the firm’s analysis of global and regional economic trends. He will report to Piero Ghezzi, head of economics, emerging markets and FX research.

Prior to joining Barclays Capital, Ricci was the deputy division chief in the research department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where he worked since 1996 in areas including the research department, African department and Middle Eastern department.

Troy Davig joins as a senior US economist, also based in New York.

Barclays Capital has appointed both Tom Quarmby as head of regional banks Asia ex-Japan and Jon Windham as head of industrials Asia ex-Japan to its equity research team in Asia Pacific. They will be based in Hong Kong.

Barclays Appoints Robert E. Diamond, Jr., Jerry del Missier and Rich Ricci

Barclays and Barclays Bank announced that Robert E. Diamond, Jr. has been appointed as group chief executive, effective March 31, 2011. He succeeds John Varley. From October 1, 2010, he will serve as president and deputy group chief executive.

Diamond currently leads corporate and investment banking, and Barclays wealth businesses of the group. He has been a member of the board of Barclays since 2005.

Barclays Capital Appoints Helge Weiner-Trapness, Steven Sun, Jorge Munoz, Marco Schwartz and Randy Gelber

Barclays Capital has made five senior appointments in its Asia Pacific investment banking operations. All the positions are based in Hong Kong and effective immediately.

Helge Weiner-Trapness was appointed head of the bank’s financial institutions group. He joins from Asia Pacific Land, where he was group managing director and chief operating officer.

Steven Sun was appointed chairman, focusing on building the firm’s financial institutions franchise. He has been head of the financial institutions group since February 2009.

Jorge Munoz and Marco Schwartz were appointed co-heads of equity capital markets for the Asia Pacific region.

Munoz was previously head of equity syndicate for the region at Deutsche Bank AG.

Schwartz is transferring to Hong Kong from London, where he was Barclays Capital’s head of equity capital markets for financial institutions for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Randy Gelber was appointed head of technology for the Asia Pacific region. He joins the bank from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he was head of the Asia technology group.
