Barclays Capital announced the appointments of Jeff Walker as managing director, head of insurance, financial institutions group, Asia Pacific.

Based in Hong Kong, Walker will be responsible for leading the origination of strategic, financing and risk management transactions for Barclays Capital’s insurance clients in Asia Pacific.

Walker joins Barclays Capital from Daiwa Capital Markets Hong Kong where he was managing director and head of insurance, Asia Pacific. Previously, he was the CEO of Prudential Assurance in Hong Kong. Prior to joining Prudential Assurance, he spent most of his career at New York Life, most recently as president and CEO of New York Life Hong Kong.

Barclays Capital, the investment banking unit of Barclays Bank, has announced the appointments of Mr. Bhuvnesh Singh as head of equity research, India, and Mr. Neel Shahani as head of equity sales trading, India.

Mr. Singh will be in-charge of establishing and developing Barclays Capital’s Indian equity research business. He will be based in Mumbai and reports to Mr. Stephen O’Sullivan, head of Asia Ex-Japan equity research. Mr. Singh has joined Barclays Capital from Credit Suisse, where he spent over 12 years.

Mr. Shahani will be responsible for establishing and managing the Barclays Capital’s execution and sales traders’ team in India as well as growing the business’s market presence. He joins Barclays Capital from IIFL where he headed a team of sales traders covering global markets. Mr. Shahani is based in Mumbai and reports to Mr. Jeremy Norris, head of equity sales trading, Asia-Pacific, and Mr. Bhavtosh Vajpayee, head of equities, India. -Business Line

Barclays Capital announced the appointment of Rafael Carrillo as managing director and head of financial institutions group, South East Asia. He will be based in Singapore.

Carrillo will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with the firm’s client base across South East Asia, in co-ordination with country coverage bankers, product colleagues and global sector partners.

Carrillo joins Barclays Capital from Citigroup where he spent over 15 years, having joined Salomon Brothers in 1995 in New York City. He was most recently managing director, head of South East Asia FIG – investment banking.

Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of UK’s Barclays Bank has said that it has named Philip Tsao as a managing director and head of global finance and risk solutions for Greater China. In his new role based in Hong Kong, Tsao will be responsible for Barclays Capital’s financing and risk management for corporate clients and financial intermediaries throughout Greater China. Tsao was most recently at Morgan Stanley where he was a managing director in the institutional equities division. -Global Banking News

Barclays Capital has appointed Jim Iorio as the head of its foreign exchange sales for the Americas. He will relocate to New York from Singapore in July to assume the role.

Iorio had earlier been the head of FX derivatives sales for Barclays, after moving to Singapore in early 2010. -Global Banking News

Barclays Capital announced that it has has named Naoki Toyoizumi as head for M&A advisory and investment banking in Japan. He will be based in Tokyo.

Toyoizumi will be responsible for bringing additional global and local expertise to Barclays Capital. He will attempt to improve the firm’s relationships with corporate and financial institution clients around the world. -Global Banking News

Barclays Capital announced two senior appointments in its research franchise.

Luca Ricci joins the company as a managing director and head of international economic research, based in New York.

Ricci will be responsible for the firm’s analysis of global and regional economic trends. He will report to Piero Ghezzi, head of economics, emerging markets and FX research.

Prior to joining Barclays Capital, Ricci was the deputy division chief in the research department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where he worked since 1996 in areas including the research department, African department and Middle Eastern department.

Troy Davig joins as a senior US economist, also based in New York.

Davig will focus on analysis of the US economy, including the effects of fiscal and monetary policy. He will report to Dean Maki, chief US economist.

Prior to joining the firm, Davig was an assistant vice president and economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, where he worked since 2005. -Business Wire

Barclays Capital has announced the appointment of Jeff Young as managing director and head of North American foreign-exchange research. He will be based in New York.

Young will report to Piero Ghezzi, managing director and head of economics, emerging markets and foreign exchange research at Barclays Capital in London.

Most recently a principal with Platinum Grove Asset Management, Young was previously the global head of foreign exchange research at Citigroup in New York. He has also worked for many years as chief economist at Nikko Citigroup in Japan. -Global Banking News

Barclays Capital has appointed both Tom Quarmby as head of regional banks Asia ex-Japan and Jon Windham as head of industrials Asia ex-Japan to its equity research team in Asia Pacific. They will be based in Hong Kong.

Quarmby was formerly head of banks research at Macquarie Securities Australia. Before that, he was with Deutsche Bank for seven years, including three years as head of Asia banks research. He has been a bank analyst for 11 years.

Windham held the same position as head of industrials (Asia ex-Japan) at Macquarie before joining Barclays Capital. Prior to that, he was at Rochdale Investment Management in New York. -Datamonitor NewsWire

Barclays Capital has appointed Tetsuya Kawano as vice chairman and managing director and head of investment banking in Japan.

Kawano will be responsible for the management of the firm’s investment banking activities in Japan.

Kawano joins from Lazard, where he held the position of chairman of Japanese investment banking. Prior to Lazard, he was with JP Morgan from 2002 to 2007, where his responsibilities included vice chairman of JP Morgan Asia Pacific and country head (president and CEO) and head of investment banking group at JP Morgan Securities Japan. -Datamonitor NewsWire

Barclays Capital announced that Reid Marsh has joined as chairman of its global industrials group.

Marsh is Citigroup’s former co-head of global industrials.

Lawrence Hamdan has also joined to head Barclays global industrials M&A practice.

Barclays Capital appointed ex-Goldman Sachs executive Johan Leven to its Asian-Pacific corporate finance team.

Leven will head the unit together with Richard Gallivan. The two will report to Matthew Ginsburg, who moved from Morgan Stanley to set up Barclays’ investment banking franchise in Asia.

Barclays Capital has appointed Jacqueline Tan as its Southeast Asia head of risk solutions group, overseeing risk solutions across all asset classes in the region.

Based in Singapore, Tan will report to Patrick Kwan and Andrew Jones, the Asia-Pacific co-heads of global financing and risk solutions and Lutfey Siddiqi, the Asia-Pacific head of corporate forex and foreign exchange distribution.

Tan Joins from ABN Amro.

Barclays Capital has appointed Rick Landgarten as a new managing director and co-head of the global healthcare group within the investment banking division. He will be based in New York.

In his role, Mr. Landgarten will partner with Patrick McMullan, co-head of the global healthcare group, to oversee the firm’s coverage of corporate clients across the healthcare sector. He will report to Ros Stephenson and Tom King, co-heads of corporate finance within the firm’s investment banking division.

Mr. Landgarten joins from Moelis where he led the firm’s coverage of the healthcare sector. He was previously the co-head of global healthcare investment banking at Citigroup. -Datamonitor NewsWire

Barclays Capital announced the appointment of Thomas King as co-head of corporate finance within the firm’s investment banking division.

Mr. King will be based in London and will partner with New York-based Ros Stephenson, the current co-head of corporate finance, to lead Barclays Capital’s industry and country coverage efforts on a global basis.

Mr. King and Ms. Stephenson will report to Hugh (Skip) McGee, head of global investment banking.

Mr. King joins Barclays Capital from Citigroup where he was most recently head of banking for Europe, Middle East and Africa. He joined Salomon Brothers in 1989 and moved to London in 1999 when he was appointed global head of mergers & acquisitions. He was named head of EMEA investment banking division in 2005, and head of the combined corporate and investment banking business in 2008.

Barclays Capital has appointed Ian Montgomery as COO of Canada and John Kennedy as chief compliance officer of Canada. In their new roles, Mr. Montgomery and Mr. Kennedy will support the execution of the firm’s strategy in Canada.

As COO, Mr. Montgomery will be responsible for coordinating front office activities in Canada, ensuring a single point of contact for all matters relating to Canada and the firm’s Canadian legal entities. Mr. Montgomery joined the firm in 2003 and assumes this new responsibility in addition to his current role as COO for principal credit at Barclays Capital. Barclays Capital has announced the appointment of Ricardo Lanfranchi as head of equities sales for Brazil, based in Sao Paulo. In this new role, Lanfranchi will report to New York-based Bill Rutledge, head of equities distribution for Latin America. Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays Bank, has appointed Timothy Last as managing director, head of equity derivatives flow sales in non-Japan Asia. Mr. Last will be responsible for growing the firm’s equity derivatives business with clients in non-Japan Asia.
