Barclays has appointed Sharon Quinlan as new head of its structured property finance team in London.
Quinlan will be tasked with supporting the bank’s real estate clients with their debt finance, and with expanding the size of the company’s London commercial property lending portfolio. She takes over from Richard Payne, who will continue working as a part time consultant to the structured property debt finance team. Quinlan joins from Bank of Ireland, where she was head of business banking.
The wealth and investment management division of Barclays has announced the appointment of Edward Kirwan as director, UK charities investment management.
Kirwan joins Barclays after twelve years at Coutts, where he was responsible for establishing and managing the charity investment team.
Barclays announced the appointment of Thomas L. Kalaris to the newly created role of executive chairman of the Americas. He will relocate from London to New York to take up this role, and will retain his executive committee responsibilities as chief executive of the wealth and investment management division of Barclays, as well as chairing Barclays client committee.
In addition, Kalaris will work in partnership with Jerry del Missier, co-chief executive of the corporate and investment banking division and chief executive of the Americas. Together, they will co-chair the Barclays Americas management team, which will be responsible for capital, funding, risk appetite and the control environment across the businesses that operate in the region, as well as review and recommend the strategy for the Americas. He will also join del Missier on the Barclays Americas governance and control committee. Barclays named John Langley and Joe McGrath as its new co-heads of its global finance and risk solutions business. They succeed Larry Wieseneck, who was appointed chief strategy officer.
Langley and McGrath will report to the bank’s head of global investment banking, Skip McGee, and will join the investment banking division’s executive committee.
McGrath was previously head of leveraged finance at the bank.
Langley has been head of risk solutions at Barclays since early 2011.
The wealth and investment management division of Barclays announced the addition of two investment representatives to its Los Angeles office. Matthew Celenza and Larry DiGioia join the firm from Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management where they catered to ultra high net worth individuals and their families.
Celenza, a managing director, brings 15 years of wealth management experience to Barclays.

Barclays announced the appointment of Steve Weston as managing director of retail lending in its UK retail and business banking division. He begins his new role at the company in April 2012.
Weston will be responsible for leading mortgage and consumer lending strategy and for the continued development of products and services in these areas, whilst meeting the evolving needs of borrowers. He will sit on the UK retail and business banking executive committee, reporting to Ashok Vaswani, chief executive officer, UK retail and business banking, Barclays.

Barclays investment banking unit has added Nicholas Wright as head of its Japanese global markets.
Wright joined the company on November 25, 2011 and will be responsible for bond, currency and commodity markets. He will also oversee Australian bond trading from Tokyo.

Barclays has expanded its trade and working capital team by adding Ray Zabarte as head of trade and working capital product management and Adrian Ow as head of risk weighted asset optimization, trade and working capital.

Barclays appointed Ian Ackerley as its new investments director for UK retail business banking.
Ackerley will be responsible for leading the development of the intergrated investment services for customers of the UK retail bank and will help run Barclays’ online investment platform which was launched in March 2011.

Barclays has appointed Angela Minton as its new retail area director for South-East Wales. She will be responsible for implementing Barclays’ customer service programme in South-East Wales. Barclays Wealth Management announced the appointment of Hans Olsen as a managing director and head of Americas investment strategy. He will be based in New York.

Barclays Wealth Management has picked former HQ Trust chief investment officer Markus Stadlmann to lead its discretionary investment management. Barclays announced that Deanna Oppenheimer has been appointed as the company’s chief executive for Western Europe retail banking, effective immediately. She will continue in her role as chief executive of UK retail banking.
Ashok Vaswani has been appointed as chief executive for Barclays Africa.
Vaswani was chief executive, Barclaycard Consumer Europe, having only joined the bank from Citigroup in February of this year. He had been extensively involved in the Citigroup development of its consumer business in Central Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa.
Barclays Capital and Barclays announced the appointment of Jeffrey M. Peek to the position of vice chairman in the investment banking division.
In his role, Peek will support the continued growth of Barclays Capital’s investment banking business and provide senior counsel to clients across the firm, with a particular focus on clients in the financial services sector. Barclays and Barclays Bank announced that Robert E. Diamond, Jr. has been appointed as group chief executive, effective March 31, 2011. He succeeds John Varley. From October 1, 2010, he will serve as president and deputy group chief executive.
Diamond currently leads corporate and investment banking, and Barclays wealth businesses of the group. He has been a member of the board of Barclays since 2005.

Barclays announced that its corporate team in Newcastle has three new relationship directors with the appointment of Ralph Edwards, Matthew Elliott and Richard Catterall.
Edwards joins the team from the leveraged finance and strategic debt finance team.
Elliott has previously been responsible for business development and, most recently, a credit role supporting a number of high profile clients.

Barclays and Barclays Bank announced that Sir Nigel Rudd, deputy chairman of Barclays, has advised that he does not intend to seek re-election to the Barclays boards at the 2009 annual general meeting. Sir Nigel will therefore leave the boards of Barclays at the conclusion of the AGM in April 2009.
