Barclays Appoints Sharon Quinlan

Barclays has appointed Sharon Quinlan as new head of its structured property finance team in London.

Quinlan will be tasked with supporting the bank’s real estate clients with their debt finance, and with expanding the size of the company’s London commercial property lending portfolio. She takes over from Richard Payne, who will continue working as a part time consultant to the structured property debt finance team. Quinlan joins from Bank of Ireland, where she was head of business banking.

Barclays Appoints Thomas L. Kalaris

Barclays announced the appointment of Thomas L. Kalaris to the newly created role of executive chairman of the Americas. He will relocate from London to New York to take up this role, and will retain his executive committee responsibilities as chief executive of the wealth and investment management division of Barclays, as well as chairing Barclays client committee.

In addition, Kalaris will work in partnership with Jerry del Missier, co-chief executive of the corporate and investment banking division and chief executive of the Americas. Together, they will co-chair the Barclays Americas management team, which will be responsible for capital, funding, risk appetite and the control environment across the businesses that operate in the region, as well as review and recommend the strategy for the Americas. Barclays Names John Langley and Joe McGrath

Barclays named John Langley and Joe McGrath as its new co-heads of its global finance and risk solutions business. They succeed Larry Wieseneck, who was appointed chief strategy officer.

Langley and McGrath will report to the bank’s head of global investment banking, Skip McGee, and will join the investment banking division’s executive committee.

McGrath was previously head of leveraged finance at the bank.

Langley has been head of risk solutions at Barclays since early 2011.

The wealth and investment management division of Barclays announced the addition of two investment representatives to its Los Angeles office. Barclays Appoints Steve Weston

Barclays announced the appointment of Steve Weston as managing director of retail lending in its UK retail and business banking division. He begins his new role at the company in April 2012.

Weston will be responsible for leading mortgage and consumer lending strategy and for the continued development of products and services in these areas, whilst meeting the evolving needs of borrowers. Fabian Neo has joined Barclays Wealth Management as head of FX advisory.

Barclays Appoints Hans Olsen and Bhavtosh Vajpayee

Barclays Wealth Management announced the appointment of Hans Olsen as a managing director and head of Americas investment strategy. He will be based in New York.

In this newly created role, Olsen will help develop the firm’s strategic and tactical asset allocation and will manage the investment strategy team in the US. Barclays announced that Deanna Oppenheimer has been appointed as the company’s chief executive for Western Europe retail banking, effective immediately. She will continue in her role as chief executive of UK retail banking.

Ashok Vaswani has been appointed as chief executive for Barclays Africa.

Vaswani was chief executive, Barclaycard Consumer Europe, having only joined the bank from Citigroup in February of this year. He had been extensively involved in the Citigroup development of its consumer business in Central Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa.

Barclays and Barclays Bank announced that Robert E. Diamond, Jr. has been appointed as group chief executive, effective March 31, 2011. He succeeds John Varley. From October 1, 2010, he will serve as president and deputy group chief executive.

Diamond currently leads corporate and investment banking, and Barclays wealth businesses of the group. He has been a member of the board of Barclays since 2005.

Barclays Appoints Paul Devenport, Christ Swarbrick and Matt Jones

Barclays has beefed up its North-West property team with three new appointments.

Paul Devenport joins the bank as senior relationship director.

Based in Liverpool, Devenport will be responsible for leading a team of three property directors across the North West and North Wales.

Devenport was previously at Bank of Scotland where he ran the corporate real estate finance team for Merseyside. He brings more than 20 years of experience in the banking sector.

Barclays Appoints Sahba Hadipour and Giedrius Dzekunskas

Barclays Appoints John Vitalo and Craig Lewis
