Cowen Group Appoints David Lu

Cowen Group announced that David Lu has been appointed head of Asia investment banking.

Lu, who is based in Hong Kong, will be responsible for leading all aspects of Cowen’s China-based investment banking platform, Cowen and Company Asia, including capital markets and financial advisory services.

Prior to his current position, Lu served as deputy head of Asia investment banking. Before joining Cowen, he served as managing director and chief representative at Piper Jaffray’s Shanghai-based office, where he successfully built a strong investment banking coverage and execution team. -Business Wire

Cowen Group announced that Dan Charney has joined the firm as managing director and co-head of equities.

David Lu, Margaret Mi and Matthew Raubacher Join Cowen Group

Cowen Group announced that David Lu and Margaret Mi have joined the company’s China-based investment banking platform, Cowen and Company Asia, as managing director and director, respectively.

Lu, who will also serve as deputy head of the company’s China-based investment banking activities, and Mi will be based in Hong Kong and report to Frank Au, chief executive officer of Cowen and Company Asia.

Lu joins Cowen from Rodman & Renshaw where he served as managing director and head of China investment banking.

Mi joins Cowen from Rodman & Renshaw where she served as a director in the company’s China investment banking group based in Beijing.

Cowen also announced that Matthew Raubacher joined the firm’s technology investment banking group, where he will serve as managing director and part of the company’s software coverage team.

John Nelson and Jeff Porphy Join Cowen Group

Cowen Group announced two appointments within its investment banking platform, Cowen and Company.

John Nelson has joined the firm as managing director and head of aerospace, defense and industrials investment banking and Jeff Porphy has been appointed head of mergers and acquisitions. Porphy will also maintain his role as head of financial sponsors coverage.

Both Nelson and Porphy are based in New York and report to Kevin Raidy and Chris McCabe, co-heads of investment banking for Cowen and Company.

Nelson re-joins Cowen from Macquarie Capital where he served as a managing director in the firm’s industrials investment banking group. He served as head of Cowen and Company’s aerospace & defense investment banking group from August 2007 to April 2011. Prior to joining Cowen in 2007, he was a managing director in the mergers & acquisitions group of Friedman Billings Ramsey, where he was head of aerospace, defense and IT services. He was also a managing director at Bank of America Securities, where he was head of the technology & business services corporate investment banking group from 2000 to 2002.

Cowen Group announced that, effective immediately, Jeffrey Solomon will assume the role of chief executive officer of Cowen & Co., the firm’s broker dealer platform.

Cowen Group Appoints Chris McCabe, Blake Williams, Jose Cobos and Peter Petitt

Cowen Group announced that Chris McCabe will become a managing director and head of technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) investment banking. He will based in San Francisco.

McCabe will join Cowen in September and will report to Jeffrey Solomon, chief operating officer and head of investment banking.

McCabe will join Cowen from Piper Jaffray where he was a managing director and global co-head of both the clean technology and renewables and industrials groups. He led the clean tech practice from 2008 until he left the company, organizing and branding the group. His responsibilities included coverage of solar, energy efficiency, industrial biotech, industrial technology and industrial growth.

Also joining Cowen’s TMT investment banking team are Blake Williams as managing director, head of semiconductors and capital equipment group, and Jose Cobos, as managing director, head of internet group.

Both Williams and Cobos will join Cowen on July 6, 2011 in San Francisco and both will report to Solomon on an interim basis until McCabe joins in September.

Cowen Healthcare Royalty Partners Hires Matthew Q. Reber as Vice President

Cowen Group and Cowen Healthcare Royalty Partners announced that Matthew Q. Reber has been hired as vice president, effective immediately. Mr. Reber is based in Connecticut and rejoins founders Gregory B. Brown, Todd C. Davis and Clarke B. Futch, the managing directors of CHRP, with whom he previously worked at Paul Capital Partners. Prior to joining CHRP, Mr. Reber worked at Accretive.

Cowen Group Announces Executive Changes

Cowen Group announced that its chairman and chief executive officer, Kim S. Fennebresque, is retiring as chief executive officer after 10 years with the firm, effective immediately. Mr. Fennebresque will become non-executive chairman of the board.

David M. Malcolm, current executive vice chairman, has been appointed president and chief executive officer, effective immediately. Mr. Malcolm has also been appointed to the board of directors. -PR Newswire
