HSBC Holdings named Melvyn Ford as head of prime services in Asia on May 10, 2012.

Ford, who has spent 17 years in Asia, joined HSBC in 2010 to lead the global relationship management function for hedge funds in the region. Previously, he worked for prime services units at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank AG. -HedgeWorld Daily News

HSBC Holdings Names Alexi Chan

HSBC Holdings announced that it has named Alexi Chan as head of debt capital markets origination for Asia, effective immediately.

Chan, who currently focuses on South and South-East Asia, will oversee 15 markets across Asia.

HSBC has appointed Vineet Vohra as regional head of wealth development, Asia Pacific, effective immediately.

Based in Hong Kong, Vohra will drive the delivery of the bank’s wealth management strategy by leading the build out of its wealth management capabilities in Asia.

Prior to joining HSBC, Vohra was the general manager, wealth management, private bank, retail banking and wealth management, Asia Pacific, for ANZ Singapore, where he built the private and affluent platform across the region. HSBC Holdings Appoints Henry Hou

HSBC Holdings announced the appointment of Henry Hou as HSBC’s head of energy solutions sales, Greater China, global markets.

Based in Hong Kong, Hou is responsible for leading sales of energy risk management products to corporate clients in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, as well as Vietnam. He will work closely with HSBC’s global products and relationship teams to deliver holistic energy risk solutions for clients across the region.

Hou reports jointly to Ivan Wong, managing director, head of corporate sales, Greater China, global markets and Hossein Zaimi, managing director, head of FX and commodities, Asia-Pacific, global markets.

Prior to joining HSBC, Hou was head of energy marketing for Greater China at Morgan Stanley, where he worked for over eight years. Before that, he served in a number of roles at China’s state administration of foreign exchange for 11 years.

HSBC Holdings Appoints Antonio Simoes, John Flint and Sridhar Chandrasekharan

HSBC Holdings’s Antonio Simoes, group head of strategy and planning, has been appointed to the new position of head of retail banking and wealth management, Europe.

John Flint, CEO of HSBC Global Asset Management, has been appointed as chief of staff to the group CEO and group head of strategy and planning, replacing Simones.

Sridhar Chandrasekharan, global head of wholesale at HSBC Global Asset Management, has been appointed as CEO of HSBC Global Asset Management, replacing Flint.

All three appointments are effective from January 1, 2012, subject to board and regulatory approval.

HSBC Holdings Appoints Simon Constantinides and Terence Chiu

HSBC Holdings has expanded the role of Simon Constantinides, head of trade and supply chain Asia-Pacific (ex Greater China), with a new role as regional head of trade and supply chain Asia-Pacific.

Constantinides will have additional responsibility for overseeing HSBC’s trade and supply chain operations in mainland China, Macau and Taiwan.

In addition, Terence Chiu was appointed head of trade and supply chain for Hong Kong. He replaces Christopher Lewis, who will relocate to New York to head HSBC’s North American trade and supply chain business.

HSBC Holdings Appoints Krishna Patel and Tim Evans

HSBC Holdings announced the appointment of Krishna Patel as chief executive of global private banking. He succeeds Chris Meares.

Patel, currently CEO of HSBC Africa and one of HSBC’s most experienced executives, will start his new role on Sept 1. In his new position, he will focus on strengthening HSBC’s competitive advantages in the wealth markets, working with other HSBC businesses to ensure the delivery of the bank’s full suite of products to private banking clients. He will also continue to chair HSBC’s values committee and take up the new role of chairman of HSBC Africa. He will initially be based in Geneva, Switzerland, and will report to HSBC Group chief executive Stuart Gulliver.

Patel has been with HSBC for 27 years, serving in a number of senior positions. He has previously been chairman and chief executive of HSBC’s global investment banking division and chairman of emerging Europe and Africa. -Business Daily Update

Simon Williams Joins HSBC

HSBC announced that Simon Williams has joined as group head of wealth management, effective 11 July 2011.

Williams, who will be based in Hong Kong, will be responsible for leading the development of retail wealth management business capabilities in key markets for the HSBC Group. He will report to Paul Thurston, HSBC’s chief executive, retail banking and wealth management (RBWM).

Williams joins HSBC from Camelot Financial Capital Management which he founded in 2007.

HSBC Holdings has appointed Nilantha Bastian as head of retail banking and wealth management, effective June 20.

Bastian succeeds Sarit G Wijeyekoon, who has taken up an overseas posting as head of retail risk/personal financial services audit for HSBC Asia Pacific.

Bastian began his banking career at HSBC in 1998 as department manager, product development and marketing. He has held several senior management positions including roles in marketing, retail banking, group communications and corporate sustainability.

Reyes will start in the newly created role in September 2011, and be based in New York, reporting to John Coverdale, group general manager and head of global transaction banking.

HSBC Holdings has named Fiona Sheerin to the African team within its private banking division, as part of expanding its business in the Sub Saharan region.

In her role as associate director, Sheerin will be based in London and will focus primarily on Nigeria and Ghana. She will report to John Lee, director West Africa.

HSBC Holdings Appoints Samir Assaf, Stuart Gulliver, Robin Phillips, Kevin Adeson, Jose-Luis Guerrero and Spencer Lake

HSBC Holdings announced the appointment of Samir Assaf as chief executive of its global banking and markets business, effective January 1, 2011. He succeeds Stuart Gulliver who becomes group chief executive.

Assaf, currently head of global markets, will report to Gulliver and becomes a group managing director, joining company’s group management board.

The company also announced that Robin Phillips, who heads some of HSBC’s client relationships, will become co-head of global banking, which will now incorporate equity capital markets, leveraged & acquisition finance and project finance execution.

Phillips will also have responsibility for key global banking and markets strategic initiatives, including managing a family office partnership with global private banking, cooperating with commercial banking to broaden relationships with the commercial banking client base, developing global banking and markets infrastructure offering and commodity financing capability, and also chairing the global banking and markets operating committee in Assaf’s absence.

Kevin Adeson will join Phillips as co-head of the enlarged global banking platform. He is currently head of global capital financing.

Jose-Luis Guerrero and Spencer Lake will become co-heads of an expanded business which will now also incorporate primary responsibility for debt capital markets and asset and structured finance.

Guerrero is currently head of global markets, EMEA and was previously head of global markets for the Americas.

HSBC Appoints Paul Thurston, Brian Robertson, Joe Garner and Marc Moses

HSBC Holdings has announced that Paul Thurston will be appointed chief executive, retail banking and wealth management, effective March 1, 2011.

In this new role, Thurston will be responsible for directing all aspects of HSBC’s retail banking business globally, including the personal financial services and insurance businesses, and the group’s marketing activities. He will lead the development of HSBC’s retail wealth management business across the group and will also direct the transformation of retail operations and technology platforms. He will report to Stuart Gulliver, group chief executive designate.

Thurston will relocate to Hong Kong and remains a member of the group management board and a director of HSBC Bank. Subject to regulatory approvals, he will also become a director of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, and of HSBC Private Banking Holdings (Suisse).

Brian Robertson, currently group chief risk officer, has been appointed chief executive, HSBC Bank, effective December 3, 2010, and subject to UK board and regulatory approvals.

Reporting to Gulliver as a member of the group management board, Robertson will be responsible for all of the group’s businesses in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He will become a director of HSBC Bank, and will also report to Sandy Flockhart, chairman, HSBC Bank. He will also become a director and chairman of HSBC Life (UK).

Joe Garner has been appointed deputy chief executive, UK and will become a director of HSBC Bank, effective December 1, 2010, and subject to UK board and regulatory approvals.

Reporting to Robertson, Garner will head up the personal financial services and commercial banking businesses in the UK.

Marc Moses has been appointed group chief risk officer, HSBC Holdings, effective December 3, 2010. He succeeds Robertson.

Jennifer Craig Joins HSBC

HSBC Holdings has appointed Jennifer Craig as the first Scottish business development manager for the bank’s equipment finance, covering all of Scotland.

HSBC Holdings announced that it has added two directors to its Middle East and North Africa (MENA) team.

The bank has appointed Anthony Hingley and Hicham Najem as directors of its investment advisory group. They would be based in London and would report to Bassem Snaije, head of the MENA team in London.

Hingley previously was with the bank as an associate director and investment advisor in Doha.

HSBC announced that Ben Katz has joined the company as head of financial investment- grade debt markets for the U.S. He will be based in New York and report to Rob Gelnaw, HSBC’s head of debt capital markets for North America.

Katz, who will oversee debt origination for U.S. institutions, will also co-head HSBC’s financing solutions group for the Americas with Matt Riez.

Katz previously was with Deutsche Bank.

HSBC Appoints Mohammad Al Tuwaijri

HSBC has appointed Mohammad Al Tuwaijri as the new head of its global banking and markets division for the Middle East and North Africa.

Al Tuwaijri, a Saudi national, will focus on key markets in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Abu Dhabi.

Al Tuwaijri joins HSBC from JP Morgan, where he was managing director and head of Saudi Arabia for the bank. Prior to that, he was treasurer at SABB, HSBC’s affiliate in the kingdom.
