Morgan Stanley Appoints Kamal Jabre

Morgan Stanley announced the appointment of Kamal Jabre as chairman and CEO for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

Jabre replaces Habib Achkar, currently the regional manager for the MENA region, who will return to Europe in a new role as a vice chairman in Morgan Stanley’s senior relationship management group, where he will focus on expanding the sales and trading relationship coverage of some of the firm’s most important clients in Europe and the Middle East.

Jabre, 44, is a twenty year veteran of Morgan Stanley and he has advised on a large number of transactions for the firm’s most important clients in North America, Europe and the Middle East and North Africa. Morgan Stanley Appoints Shyam Parekh, Kevin Ryan, Taylor Wright, Claus Skrumsager and Leo Civitillo

Morgan Stanley has formed a financial institutions group global capital markets team (FIG) that aims to advise banks on capital issues while also providing debt and equity underwriting services. The new group will be led by Shyam Parekh, a managing director based in London, and Kevin Ryan and Taylor Wright, who are based in New York.

Parekh was most recently the head of the FIG capital markets team for Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Ryan ran the FIG solutions group in the United States, which already advises clients on capital and regulatory issues.

Wright was most recently the head of the FIG equity underwriting team in the United States.

Two other executives, Claus Skrumsager and Leo Civitillo, were promoted to global co-heads of debt derivatives.

Skrumsager is already the head of European fixed-income capital markets, while Civitillo is his counterpart for the Americas.

Vikas Khattar Joins Morgan Stanley

Morgan Stanley announced that Vikas Khattar has joined the firm as a managing director and head of global capital markets in India, effective on October 1. He is based in the Mumbai office.

In this role, Khattar will be directly responsible for the firm’s equity and debt capital markets businesses in this market, reporting to Crawford Jamieson and George Taylor, Hong Kong based co-heads of global capital markets in Asia Pacific.

Khattar was recently a managing director and head of South Asia equity and equity linked capital markets origination at Citigroup in India. Prior to that, he was at Merrill Lynch for 11 years across banking and equity capital markets in India.

Morgan Stanley Appoints Dolph Habeck and David Yellend

Morgan Stanley has strengthened its emerging markets team with the appointment of Dolph Habeck, former executive director at Goldman Sachs, and David Yellend from Deutsche Bank.

Habeck had been at Goldman Sachs since September 2009, and has previously worked at Dresdner Kleinwort. He will replace Karim Movaghar.

Yellend is set to join the emerging markets project finance group.

Morgan Stanley Names Kate Richdale, Gokul Laroia, Ted Pick and Luc Francois

Morgan Stanley has named Kate Richdale as the sole head of investment banking for Asia-Pacific.

Gokul Laroia, former co-head of investment banking, was named to run the Asian equity division, including Japan, which typically represents about two thirds of revenue for investment banks in the region. Laroia will replace David Russell, who is relocating to London to run European equities.

Among other changes, Morgan Stanley named Ted Pick as the sole global head of equities.

Former global co-head of equities Luc Francois has been named to expand the company’s equity derivatives business.

Morgan Stanley Appoints Colm Kelleher and Paul J. Taubman

Morgan Stanley announced that it has appointed Colm Kelleher and Paul J. Taubman as co-presidents of institutional securities. These appointments are part of a management reshuffle at Morgan Stanley by its chief executive James Gorman.

Kelleher will relocate from New York to London, where he will assume responsibility for Europe, the Middle East and Asia, excluding Japan. He will also be directly responsible for global sales and trading.

Kelleher served as Morgan Stanley’s chief financial officer during the financial crisis and is credited with being part of the team that steered the company through a near-death experience that ended with its conversion into a bank holding company.

Taubman, Kelleher’s counterpart as co-president of institutional securities, will remain in New York, but will now have oversight of Latin America, as well as Japan, where he has played an important role in Morgan Stanley’s securities joint venture with Mitsubishi. Morgan Stanley Appoints Jim Rosenthal

Morgan Stanley announced the appointment of Jim Rosenthal as chief operating officer. He succeed Tom Nides.

Rosenthal will handle the integration of the New York investment bank’s brokerage joint venture with Citigroup’ Smith Barney, of which it holds a 51% stake. He will also oversee human resources, corporate communications, marketing, community affairs and corporate services.

Rosenthal joined from commercial real estate business Tishman Speyer in 2008, where he had worked as chief financial officer since 2006. He has also worked for Lehman Brothers and McKinsey & Co, the consulting firm where he and Morgan Stanley chief executive and president James Gorman got their Wall Street starts.

Morgan Stanley Names Shelley Hanan and Mark Connolly

Morgan Stanley has named Shelley Hanan as chief executive of its private bank. He replaces Cecelia Stewart.

Hanan, who has been with Morgan Stanley for 26-years, has been serving as the acting head of Morgan Stanley’s retail banking group. He has held several positions within the firm’s private wealth management business, including as southwest regional manager and as chief administrative officer of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.

The firm has also named Mark Connolly to a new position as head of products for the unit.

In his new role, Connolly will be responsible for providing private banking products and services to Morgan Stanley’s financial advisers and their clients.

Morgan Stanley Appoints Gergely Voros and Dmitry Avdeev

Morgan Stanley announced that it has appointed Gergely Voros and Dmitri Avdeev as co-heads of investment banking for Russia/CIS, effective June 7. Both will be based in Moscow.

Mr. Voros, 39, has 13 years of investment banking experience in Russia and CIS. He has led the origination and execution of some of the biggest capital raisings in the region including, among others, the IPOs OAO Rosneft, Evraz Group, MMK and Eurasian Natural Resources.

Mr. Avdeev, 36, returns to Morgan Stanley after two years as the chief financial officer at Integra. Morgan Stanley appointed P. Jayendra Nayak as the chief executive officer and country head for India with effect from April 5.

Mr. Nayak was chairman and CEO of Axis Bank from January 2000 until April 2009. In 2009, he became a member of the technical advisory committee for monetary policy of the Reserve Bank of India. Morgan Stanley Adds Janice Dunnett, Dave Sandor and Ronnie Potel

Morgan Stanley has added three executives from Standard Chartered to lead its Asian-Pacific convertible bonds operations. The newly appointed bankers will be based in Hong Kong.

Janice Dunnett, a former head of StanChart, will take charge of Morgan Stanley’s convertible bond offerings in Asia starting from mid-April.

Standard Chartered ex-banker Dave Sandor will take over as vice president of Morgan Stanley.

Morgan Stanley Appoints Jeffrey L. Shames, and Edmond N. Moriarty III

Morgan Stanley announced the appointment of two industry veterans to expand the leadership team within its investment management business.

Jeffrey L. Shames, the former chairman and CEO of MFS Investment Management, will join the firm as a senior advisor to Morgan Stanley investment management (MSIM) and senior advisor of Morgan Stanley’s global research division.

Mr. Shames will be responsible for all strategy related to MSIM, across investment management, client service and marketing.

Additionally, Edmond N. Moriarty III, who previously served as a senior vice president at Merrill Lynch, will join the firm as chief operating officer of MSIM and chief operating officer of Morgan Stanley’s global research division.

Mr. Moriarty will have responsibility for all operations across MSIM, including finance and risk management.

In October 2007, Mr. Moriarty was named co-chief risk officer of Merrill Lynch with responsibility for all market and credit risk management across the firm.

Morgan Stanley Promotes Jonathan Pruzan, Eric Bischof, John Esposito, Yoichiro Ito and Takashi Kurose

Morgan StanleyMorgan Stanley has promoted Jonathan Pruzan and Eric Bischof to global co-heads of its financial institutions group. They replace Ruth Porat, who was promoted to chief financial officer in December. The promotions were announced January 4, 2010 and took effect January 1, when James Gorman became Morgan Stanley’s president and chief executive.

Bischof was global chief operating office of the financial institutions group.

Pruzan has worked for Morgan Stanley for 15 years. He was co-head of North America financial institution group mergers and acquisitions, and was previously the head of North America banks for Morgan Stanley.

Morgan Stanley has also promoted John Esposito, who has worked for the company since 2004, to head of the financial institutions group in the Americas.

Yoichiro Ito and Takashi Kurose will become co-heads of the financial institutions group in Japan, replacing Kohei Yuki. -American Banker

Morgan Stanley Hires Gregory Fleming

Morgan StanleyMorgan Stanley announced that it hired former Merrill Lynch president and chief operating officer Gregory Fleming to run its investment management group.

Fleming, one of the architects of Merrill Lynch’s sale to Bank of America, will be president of Morgan Stanley investment management, which includes the firms merchant banking business. He will also be responsible for Morgan Stanleys global research and will report to incoming chief executive James Gorman.

Morgan Stanley Appoints Ruth Porat

Morgan StanleyMorgan Stanley’s incoming chief executive has chosen the bank’s first female chief financial officer as part of a reshuffle of senior management. Ruth Porat, the global head of Morgan Stanley’s financial institutions group, succeeds Colm Kelleher as chief financial officer under James Gorman, who replaces John Mack as chief executive of Morgan Stanley at the end of the year.

Ms. Porat, 52, has worked on some of the bank’s biggest assignments, including heading the team that advised the US Treasury on the nationalization of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Mr. Kelleher, meanwhile, will become co-president of institutional securities with Paul Taubman, who was previously the global head of investment banking. -The Times (London)

Morgan Stanley Appoints Carol Lin and PV Krishna

Morgan StanleyMorgan Stanley has appointed Carol Lin from Bank of America Merrill Lynch in charge of its Asian distressed and stressed assets sourcing and distribution.

Lin, who previously served as managing director and global bank sourcing coordinator for BofA Merrill Lynch, will assume the post in February, 2010.

Morgan Stanley has also hired PV Krishna from Nomura India unit to head its Indian equity capital markets, replacing Sumeet Puri.

Morgan Stanley Announces Executive Appointments

Morgan StanleyMorgan Stanley has hired former Merrill Lynch executive David Moffitt for a newly created position to lead the bank’s securitised debt sales in its capital markets division. Moffitt will head the global credit solutions and will be responsible for all primary securitisation and asset restructuring opportunities.

The corporate securitisation business under Tom Cahill will also report to Moffitt. Moffitt will report to the bank’s co-heads of capital markets, Raj Dhanda and John Hyman. On the fixed-income side, John D Pearce will coordinate the efforts alongside his current responsibilities. Pearce will be the point person for inquiries from sales and trading clients regarding credit portfolio, restructurings and asset dispositions.

Morgan Stanley Announces Management Changes

Morgan Stanley’s head of investment banking for Asia-Pacific, Matthew Ginsburg, has resigned from the firm. Gokul Laroia and Kate Richdale would become co-heads of the company replacing Ginsburg. Laroia, who has been with Morgan Stanley for more than 14 years, was most recently a head of Global Capital Markets for Asia, while Richdale has been with the bank for nearly a decade, most recently as the CEO for Southeast Asia.
